Postmenopause
Postmenopause is the stage after menopause and starts a year after the last menstruation. It lasts about 15 years and continues into old age.

Postmenopause is a long stage that extends into old age and that, with the increase of life expectancy, represents more than a third of a woman’s life years in many countries. Therefore, it is important to promote positive changes in habits and lifestyle, so that women can live their life with good health.

It should be noted that changes to ovarian function are added to those of ageing, which increase the risk of developing certain diseases and health disorders or pathologies such as osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes and cancer.

Therefore, it is very important that women take care of their health and continue to undergo gynaecological check-ups at least up to 70 years of age plus regular physical, pelvic, colorectal, breast, bone density and skin examinations.

It consists of two phases: a first one in which the changes and discomfort caused by hormonal imbalances are still noticeable, and a second in which the female hormones level out and stop causing problems.

What symptoms might you experience?

The first symptom is usually a change in or cessation of periods. ater symptoms may be similar to those in natural menopause: hot flushes, night sweats, irritability, poor concentration, reduced sexual desire, vaginal dryness and pain during intercourse.
