Menopause
Gynaecological health
In Spain, the average age of menopause is 51, although it usually happens between the ages of 45 and 55.
It is a natural process, a normal physiological stage which takes a different path in each woman. However, some of its symptoms can cause discomfort and have a significant impact on quality of life. This means it is essential you don’t give up and instead ask for help, since there are many effective treatments to alleviate them and even remedy the problems they cause.
Although menopause is socially considered to be a broad term which encompasses the first few years after the last menstrual period, this is not actually the case. From the medical standpoint, a woman is considered to have entered the menopause when she has not had a period for 12 months after her last one. This is followed by the postmenopausal period, which is a much longer stage and lasts until the end of life.
