In recent days several positive cases have been detected throughout Europe and, for this reason, we want to inform you that at Dexeus Mujer we are closely following their evolution and we are in contact with Salud Pública of the Ministry of Health of Spain to follow all the protocols they set.
Coronavirus COVID-19 does not have, at present, specific treatment and affects older people who have serious underlying conditions rather than children and pregnant women.
Anyway, from Dexeus Mujer we want to share recommendations to reduce the risk of infection:
- Perform extra hand hygiene. Wash your hands frequently with soap and water or use alcohol-based antibacterial products, especially after coughing or sneezing.
- Take extra hygiene of common surfaces: remote controls, doorknobs…
- Cover your nose and mouth with tissues or with your elbow bent when you are going to cough or sneeze. Avoid covering your mouth with your hand.
- Avoid close contact with anyone who has a cold or flu-like symptoms. Ventilate the rooms and avoid contact with any secretion.
- In case you have symptoms, stay at home and call 111.
We want to emphasize that the use of masks is not necessary in healthy people and in people at risk, such as the elderly and immunocompromised people or with basic respiratory problems such as COPD, bronchitis or asthma.
As we have said, the most important thing to prevent the spread is to maintain good hand hygiene and good respiratory hygiene. Therefore, we have reinforced the hygienic measures in our waiting rooms, which will have:
- Informational posters on hand and respiratory hygiene
- Hydroalcoholic gel
- Tissues box
- Pedal waste bin (with biological waste bag)
Here we detail the protocol information on how to act in case of visits at Dexeus Mujer.
Patient arriving in Spain from disease risk areas (COVID-19)
If you come from an area considered at risk and it is a first visit, we would be grateful if you would call +34 93 227 48 96 to reschedule the visit as a videoconference.
If you are already undergoing a reproductive treatment and you do not have symptoms, you must notify us beforehand by calling +34 93 227 48 96 and, when you arrive at the centre, you will go directly to your visit without having to go through the reception desk. Nor will you wait in the waiting room with the rest of the patients and we will apply a special protocol. Upon arrival at the centre, masks will be provided for you and your companions to use during the visit at Dexeus Mujer. All health personnel will also wear a mask while they’ll be with you. Once the visit is over, we will proceed to wash our hands in a standard way and will routinely clean and disinfect the contact surfaces. If instruments or any type of non-disposable material have been used, it will be disinfected with the normally established protocols.
If you are already undergoing a reproductive treatment and you have any respiratory symptoms (cough, fever or feeling of shortness of breath), we would appreciate if you contact our centre by calling +34 93 227 48 96 and the medical team will assess your case.
Protocol for the patient who has been in contact with a person infected with COVID-19
If you have been in contact with a person infected with coronavirus, our recommendation is that, if you have no symptoms, you can live a normal life. However, if it is a first reproduction visit, we prefer that you call +34 93 227 48 96 and we will reschedule it by videoconference.
If you are already undergoing a reproductive treatment and you have any respiratory symptoms (cough, fever or feeling of shortness of breath), we would appreciate if you contact our centre by calling +34 93 227 48 96 and the medical team will assess your case.
Protocol for pregnant patients
Currently there are no data on the possible consequences in the case of pregnant patients, but it is conceivable that the risk of suffering from pneumonia and a serious affectation is higher due to the immunosuppression of pregnancy and the decreased lung capacity in the last trimester.
For this reason, our recommendation is to further strengthen hand and respiratory hygiene measures in cases of pregnant patients.
